Biography/Motivation

Throughout my life I have had the good fortune of receiving a multitude of acts of kindness and support from family, friends and even strangers. I will forever be grateful for and humbled by the generosity of others, and I know that without their encouragement I would not have had the opportunities and successes I have enjoyed in both my professional and personal life. As the beneficiary of the generosity of many people, I believe it important for me to pay it forward to others by doing all I can to promote the success of students in pursuit of advanced degrees in counseling and related professions. Thus, I am establishing the Gaylia Borror Advocacy in Action Scholarship with the hope that the recipient will also pay it forward by advocating for people and causes they believe in. As a Professor Emerita of the Winona State University Counselor Education Department (faculty from August 1989 through June 2014) I hope to continue to follow my passions by serving the needs of others. As a Registered Play Therapist “ Supervisor I know the importance of play across the lifespan and I hope to always be able to find the playful spirit that resides within me as I strive to serve others and advocate for their needs.
