Opening Doors to Opportunity Scholarship

In December 2020, the Opening Doors to Opportunity Scholarship was established with the Winona State University Foundation. The scholarship will benefit and encourage diverse students from underserved populations and first year students of all backgrounds, who have financial need.

Criteria
In academic years when the spring semester ends in an odd number (example 2021, 2023, 2025) year one, each recipient must:
a. be an undergraduate student enrolled full-time and in good standing at Winona State University (minimum of 12 credits per semester, fall and spring)
b. have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher
c. have financial need as determined by response to related application essay question(s).
d. Preference for diverse students from underserved populations.

Background and Motivation
Mehboob Alam is a 1995 Computer Science graduate. He later received his M.S from the University of Minnesota. He is establishing this scholarship to honor his mentors, teachers, and numerous others he encountered during his time at WSU, who enriched his life. His wish is that every recipient of this scholarship will well utilize the funds to further their own pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.
