William E. Prigge Scholarship

In February 2021, William E. Prigge Scholarship was established with the Winona State University Foundation. This scholarship will benefit and encourage students who are majoring in Math Education.

Criteria
Each recipient must be:
• Undergraduate student enrolled full time (minimum of 12 credits per semester) at Winona State University.
• Declared major in Winona State University’s Math Education Program
• Classified as a Junior with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Have been admitted to the Teacher Education Program.
• Preference for a student from Winona County.

Background and Motivation
William Edgar Prigge is the son of Edgar W. and Erna A. Prigge of Lewiston, Minnesota. His brother, James A. Prigge and family are also residents of Lewiston, Minnesota.

He was born in Stockton, Minnesota on May 20, 1939. At age six, his family moved to Lewiston where he attended elementary school at St. John’s Lutheran School. He graduated from Lewiston High School in May 1957.

William attended Winona State Teachers College where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in June 1961. His majors were mathematics and social studies. He then earned a master’s degree in Mathematics Education during August 1968.

His first teaching experience was in Bloomer, Wisconsin, during the 1961-62 school year, teaching mathematics, social studies, and the classroom portion of driver education. From the fall of 1962 through the spring of 1989, he taught junior high mathematics in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

On June 8, 1968, in Cheyenne he married Sally Jo Sessoms, a native of Casper, Wyoming. They had one daughter, Kimberly Jo, married to Phillip Munson of Cheyenne.

Since retiring from teaching in June 1989, William has taught income tax preparation classes and does tax preparation for H& R Block in Cheyenne.
