John & Edna Fuller Scholarship

The John and Edna Fuller Scholarship is for students who have declared a major in WSU’s Elementary Education program.

Criteria

1. Each recipient must be an undergraduate student enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credit hours) at Winona State University.
2. Each recipient must be classified as a junior and be in good standing at Winona State University with a minimum grade point average (g.p.a.) of 3.0. (4.0 A).
3. Each recipient must be a declared major in Winona State University’s Elementary Education program.
4. Each recipient must have been admitted into the Teacher Education Program.
5. Each recipient must have declared an academic minor in one of the following: language arts, social studies, mathematics or science.
6. Each recipient must have demonstrated the ability to work with children and faculty.
7. Each recipient must be in need of financial assistance.

Biography/Motivation

John J. Fuller worked for over 5O years in public education after receiving a bachelors degree from Bowling Green University, a masters degree from Teachers College at Columbia University and a doctorate from Ohio State University. He had been the recipient of two Fulbright grants to lecture on public education in the Philippines. Dr. Fuller was a professor of education at Winona State University for 21 years before retiring in 1968 when he was named professor emeritus. He passed away on August 18, 1988, at the age of 88.
Edna Fuller, Johns wife of 62 years, also contributed to the field of education as a teacher for almost 50 years. She supervised student teachers at Winona State for many years and was active in local community and educational organizations. She received her 13.5. in education at Ohio State University and did postgraduate work at several other institutions. John and Ednas two daughters, Elaine and Jacqueline, are graduates of Winona State University and are professors in higher education.
