Scott & Karen Sorvaag Student Teaching Scholarship

In September 2023, the Scott & Karen Sorvaag Student Teaching Scholarship was established with the Winona State University Foundation. This scholarship will benefit and encourage education students who are preparing for student teaching.

Background and Motivation
Karen and Scott Sorvaag are lifelong educators devoted to improving the quality of life for the next generation. The Sorvaags have taught and provided educational leadership for learners from kindergarten to graduate school. They have held various educational roles – teacher principal, director, chairperson, and professor. Dr. Karen Sorvaag is a faculty developer at a community and technical college and Dr. Scott Sorvaag began his service at Winona State University as Dean of the College of Education in 2023. The Sorvaags remember the challenges and opportunities of the student teaching experience and created this scholarship to support future teachers on their journey
