FPA Tom Sawyer Legacy Fund

The Warrior Football Scholarship is created to encourage and support students in the Department of Education who participate in the WSU Football program and to advocate Alumni to become part of the Warrior Football Scholarship.

Criteria

1. Each recipient must be an undergraduate student enrolled full-time in good standing at Winona State University (minimum of 12 credits per semester, Fall and Spring)
2. Each recipient must be a member of the Winona State University Football team
3. Each recipient must be classified as a sophomore, junior, senior, 5th or 6th year student
4. Each recipient must maintain a minimum overall grade point average (g.p.a.) of 3.0 (4.0 = A)

Biography/Motivation

Merle graduated from Winona State Teacher’s College in 1955, he played on the offensive and defensive lines on the WSU Football team. Merle’s attendance at Winona State and his participation with Warrior football changed his life. After graduation from Blooming Prairie High School, he joined the Army, proudly serving his country during the Korean War. Merle was an educator in St. Charles and Rochester, MN for 31 years.
