Dr. Jeanne E. Danneker Special Education Student Teaching Scholarship

In July 2013, Jeanne E. Danneker established the Dr. Jeanne E. Danneker Special Education Student Teaching Scholarship as an annual/endowed fund in the Winona State University Foundation. In September 2019, the scholarship was fully endowed. This scholarship will benefit students who are performing their student teaching in Special Education.

Criteria

1. Each recipient must be an undergraduate student enrolled full-time and in good standing at Winona State University
2. Each recipient must be a declared Special Education major
3. Each recipient must be completing their student teaching assignment in Special Education at the time of the award

Biography/Motivation

Jeanne E. (Nelson) Danneker earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Winona State University in 1978, majoring in Special Education/Learning Disabilities and Elementary Education. She taught special education at the elementary level for 18 years. During that time she also earned a Master’s degree in Emotional Behavior Disorders from UW-La Crosse. She earned her Ph.D. in Special Education from UW-Madison in 2004 and returned to Winona State as an Assistant Professor in 2007. She retired as a Professor Emerita in 2018. Dr. Danneker recognized the tremendous sacrifices made by Special Education majors, particularly during their student teaching semesters. She started this scholarship to provide financial support and express her respect and appreciation for their work.
