Aileen N. & Robert Rice Scholarship

The Aileen N. and Robert Rice Scholarship is created to encourage and support WSU students during the last three years of their college education and who are preparing themselves to teach public middle school students.

Criteria

a. An undergraduate student enrolled full-time at Winona State University and who has successfully completed the freshman year at WSU;.
b. Classified as a sophomore, junior, or senior, be in good standing at WSU, and be maintaining a grade point average of 3.0 or better;
c. In economic need of scholarship assistance to pay the student’s tuition and other fees due WSU.
d. A declared education major and working to attain a degree in education.
e. Demonstrating leadership and involvement in the WSU community.

Biography/Motivation

Aileen Nelson Rice enrolled as a freshman at WSU in September 1941. She graduated with a two year Associates Degree in June 1943. She commenced her teaching career at Lyle and later taught at Rush City, Stillwater, Cloquet, and Winona, Minnesota. She continued her education at WSU in the summers and graduated with a four year Bachelor of Science degree in 1951. In February 1956, she resigned her teaching position and married Robert Rice. Aileen N. and Robert Rice are establishing this scholarship to aid young people in earning a degree and in appreciation of the education that Aileen received at WSU.
