Families First Scholarship

In 2012, the Families First Scholarship was established as an annual/endowed fund in the Winona State University Foundation. The scholarship will benefit single student parents at WSU.

Criteria

1. Each recipient must be admitted to WSU as an undergraduate student;
2. Each recipient must be a legal custodian of a child 12 years of age or younger and have primary care of the child while enrolled at WSU
3. Each recipient must be enrolled for a minimum of 9 credits each academic semester, Fall & Spring; and must complete a minimum of 24 credits in a given year (summer session credits count towards fiscal year)
4. Each recipient must maintain student status throughout the academic year
5. Each recipient must maintain a 2.5 grade point average
6. Each recipient must not have earned a previous baccalaureate degree
7. Each recipient must be income eligible (as determined by the WSU Financial Aid Office qualifying income chart guidelines)
8. Each recipient must provide a journal of their academic experience and evaluation methods and appear in promotional materials
9. As part of the application process for this scholarship, the student must submit an essay describing the following:
a. What are your higher educational goals
b. How will the Families First Scholarship assist you in achieving your goals
c. What attracts you to WSU
d. What special circumstances would you like the Families First committee to consider
