John D. Bublitz Scholarship

The John D. Bublitz Scholarship is for full-time undergraduate junior or senior students who have declared a major in Winona State University’s Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement program.


1. Each recipient must be an undergraduate student enrolled full time at Winona State University. If the recipient is graduating fall semester of their senior year he/she shall receive the full scholarship amount in the fall semester.
2. Each recipient must be classified as a junior or senior in good standing at Winona State University with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 (4.0=A).
3. Each recipient must be a declared major in Winona State University’s Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement program.
4. The award is open to both male and female students.


This scholarship has been established in memory of Lance Corporal John David Bublitz, son of Robert and Sally Bublitz and nephew of Dr. Ervin G. Bublitz, Professor of Sociology at Winona State University. He was born December 4, 1960, and passed away Sunday, October 12, 1986. He was a graduate of Winona Senior High School and served four years in the marines enlisting Jun 1979. He graduated from the Law Enforcement Center of Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, in January 1985. He reenlisted in the Marines July 1986 to serve in the Military Police. He was a member of the National Rifle Association of the Marine Reserves and received an outstanding citizenship award from the city of San Diego for single-handedly chasing and holding two males he caught vandalizing a supper club. In order to allow others to achieve and succeed in the area of law enforcement, this scholarship has been established so that the spirit of John David Bublitz will live in the lives of others.
