Floretta M. Murray
Floretta M. Murray began teaching at Winona State as an art supervisor of Phelps Campus School in the fall of 1932 following her graduation. She began teaching in the college art department at WSU in 1941 and eventually became head of the art department. During her time as head of the department, the B.A., B.S. and M.A. programs were developed. She also established art internships for art majors at the Minneapolis Art Institute, the Minnesota Museum of Art in St. Paul, and the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife. She taught for one year and several summers at the University of Minnesota in the art and education departments as well as at Bemidji State, The College of St. Teresa and St. Mary’s College here in Winona. After her retirement from WSU in 1976 she was named Professor Emeritus.
