Ormsin Sornmoonpin Gardiner Healthy Start Scholarship
In January 2022, the Ormsin Sornmoonpin Gardiner Healthy Start Scholarship was established with the Winona State University Foundation. This scholarship will benefit and encourage incoming first-year students, including non-traditional students, with demonstrated financial need who are interested in pursuing a degree in one of the following areas: math, math education. exercise science, science and/or nursing.
Criteria
• Undergraduate incoming first-year student
• Enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credits per semester)
• Interest in pursuing a degree in math, math education, exercise science, science and/or nursing.
(Majors include biology, chemistry, geoscience, mathematics & statistics, physics, exercise science and nursing)
• Demonstrated financial need, but need should not be based solely on FAFSA
• GPA of 3.25 or higher, but not considered a primary criteria
Background and Motivation
Ormsin Sornmoonpin Gardiner is a professor emerita of mathematics and statistics at Winona State University and former professor of physics at Chulalongkorn University. She was born in Thailand, where she began her international, lifelong education that spanned Europe (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology) and the United States. These opportunities were made possible by scholarships and awards. She wishes to encourage and inspire incoming students who, like herself, are motivated to learn. This scholarship is intended to provide students with a healthy start to their academic journeys.
