Background and Motivation
Nancy was born December 16, 1926, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to parents John and Margaret (Anderson) Staley. Her life was filled with rich experiences as she traveled all over the world and made it to all the 7 continents. Her hands created beautiful paintings, exquisite hand work, wonderful sounds from the piano and organ, and incredible items of clothing. Nancy was involved with groups at Newcomers and University Women over the years and was often a model in the style shows. Nancy was an artist and had originally wanted to work full time in a job to utilize her artistic talents, however, she started teaching art in Arizona and it became her passion. In 1963, Nancy was named Arizona’s winner of the U. S. Elementary Teachers for Excellence in teaching award. The programs she developed for her students enabled them to be successfully competitive in student art shows. Nancy had a bachelors degree in teaching and art from Winona State University and a Master’s in Art History. She and her husband moved to Nacogdoches in the 1960s when her husband, Dr.Creighton Delaney, became the Chairman of the Art Department at SFASU.
Upon Nancys passing in 2019, her estate bequeathed a gift to establish an endowed scholarship for students with need in the Department of Art at WSU.
