Alice Harkness Memorial Early Childhood Education Scholarship

In February 2023, the Alice Harkness Memorial Early Childhood Education Scholarship was established with the Winona State University Foundation.
This scholarship will benefit and encourage students who are majoring in Elementary Education, focusing on Early Childhood Education.

• Full Time Status
• Declared Major – Elementary Education/Early Childhood Education
• Good academic standing

Background and Motivation
Alice (Harkness) McKeag was born and raised in Winona, MN, and attended WSU where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Education in 1955. Alice worked nearly full-time throughout her education in order to pay her expenses and graduate debt free. Alice was an advocate for Early Childhood Education as an important part of the educational journey.

Alice’s husband Robert and their children believe that Alice would have wanted to support the next generation of teachers through a scholarship so today’s students wouldn’t have to work as hard as she did during her school years.
