Biography/Motivation
Treasures Galore was a non-profit clothing consignment store located in Winona, Minnesota. It used its profits to help other non-profit organizations in the Winona area and to give scholarships to Winona State University and Red Wing/Winona Technical College students.
The shop was incorporated in February 1973 with the initial necessary capital donated by forty-seven Winona women as charter members. The original objective was the renovation of the Winona Red Cross Chapter House into a permanent women’s club building. However, the zoning variance was denied. When the variance was denied, Angus Callender made space available in the old Badger Foundry building. Over the years, the shop moved three times. The organization made its initial contribution to the WSU Foundation in 1983 with a $1,000 gift and over the years enough funds were donated to endow the scholarship.
