Bernice A. Berg Scholarship
The Bernice A. Berg Memorial Scholarship is created to encourage and support students in the pursuit of their education at WSU.
Criteria
1. Each recipient must be an incoming First Year student enrolled full-time at Winona State University.
2. Each recipient must have a high school GPA of 3.3 or higher.
Biography/Motivation
Bernice Berg was born on June 1, 1906 in Altura, MN. Bernice attended Lewiston High School and then went on to receive her B.S. degree from Winona State University in 1942. Her first teaching position was in Okabena, MN for three years. She then decided to see the world and moved to Montana, teaching there for 12 years. From there, Bernice returned to Austin, where she taught seventh- and eighth- grade English until her retirement in 1971. For many years, she was involved with various civic organizations. Bernice was a member of the First Congressional Church in Austin and has served on many governing boards as well as women’s organizations. She was an avid bridge player and a member of the travel club, traveling to Europe, Africa, South America, the Middle East and throughout the Continental United States. She resided at the Cedars in Austin until moving to St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea were she remained until her death on June 18, 2002.
