Randy & Helen Russett Scholarship
The Randy and Helen Russett Scholarship is created for students who are education teaching majors at WSU.
Criteria
• Each applicant must be an undergraduate student enrolled full-time (i.e., minimum of twelve credits per semester) at Winona State University
• Each applicant must be a education teaching major at Winona State University
• Each applicant must demonstrate financial need
• Each applicant must have a 3.0 grade point average (4.0 g.p.a.=A)
Biography/Motivation
Randy Russett started at WSTC in 1949 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1957, 1951 through 1955 were spent in the USAF where he was an instructor working with the Civil Defense Department of the State of Pennsylvania. In 1957, he began his teaching career as a science teacher and coach in Ivanhoe Minnesota. He continued with graduate courses and attained a Masters degree from Mankato State University in 1968. From 1960 until his retirement in 1987 he taught in junior and senior high schools in Saint Louis Park Minnesota and taught earth science and biology as well as coaching football and baseball.
Helen Russett attended college at the College of Saint Catherine in Saint Paul and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa from 1949 until 1951. From 1953 until 1979 she served as a mother and house wife. She was active in the youth programs in which her children were involved. In 1979 she began her short but productive career as an administrative assistant to a director at General Mills in Golden Valley, Minnesota. She retired in 1992 and she and Randy moved to Eustis and Sun City Center, Florida.
During their long and productive careers they touched the lives of thousands of students and community groups. Their commitment to education and the betterment of the lives of young people is reflected in those they have touched.
The Randy and Helen Russett Scholarship Fund will provide an opportunity to an aspiring your teacher to continue the efforts they have put forth.
