Marjorie Moravec Basketball Scholarship
The Marjorie Moravec Basketball Scholarship is for members of the WSU Women’s Basketball Team.
Criteria
1. Each recipient must be an undergraduate student enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credit hours) at Winona State University.
2. Each recipient must be in good standing at Winona State University with a minimum grade point average (G.P.A.) of 3.0 (4.0 = A) for upper class students; if an incoming freshman is selected, the recipient must meet regular admission requirements.
3. Each recipient must be a member of the WSU Women’s Basketball team.
4. If the Awardee should discontinue participation in the women’s basketball program for reasons other than those deemed valid by the head basketball coach, the scholarship award to that student shall terminate.
Biography/Motivation
Marjorie A. Moravec was affiliated with Winona State University for more than thirty-five years. Born in Glencoe, Minnesota, she graduated from high school in Taylors Falls, Minnesota. She graduated with a B.S. degree in 1951 from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth with a major in art arid minors in physical education and social studies. In 1957 Marge earned her M.A. degree in physical education from the University of Iowa. Between 1951 and 1956, she taught school in Mondovi and Barron, Wisconsin and Waverly, Iowa.
During her tenure at Winona State; she taught in the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department. She also coached basketball, cross country, softball, track and field, tennis and volleyball. She was named District 13 N.A.I.A. Cross Country coach of the year tour times. In 1992 she was voted the Conference Outdoor Track Coach of the year. She also served On the N.A.I.A. Track and Field Committee for seven years.
Marge was certified as a track official for the Minnesota State High School League and was active in first aid and CPR work for the American Red Cross and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
