Tracy Bergemann Endowed Scholarship for Women in the Quantitative Sciences

In February of 2020, the Tracy Bergemann Endowed Scholarship for Women in the Quantitative Sciences was established with the Winona State University Foundation.
The scholarship will benefit and encourage students who are majoring in Mathematics, Data Science or Statistics to encourage and support students in the Department of Mathematics-Math option, Statistics option or Data Science.

Criteria
Undergraduate
Full time enrollment = 12 credits per semester
Declared major in the quantitative sciences, such as mathematics, statistics or data science
Preference for female students

Background and Motivation
Tracy Bergemann earned Mathematics and Statistics degrees from Winona State University in 1997. Tracy then continued her education at the University of Washington, obtaining a PhD in Biostatistics in 2004. She then was hired as a Research Associate in the University of Minnesota Cancer Center and then as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Division of Biostatistics at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Bergemann conducted research in statistical genetics, specializing in genetic association studies for pediatric oncology research. She has published peer-reviewed articles in many well-known medical and scientific journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Science, Nucleic Acids Research and Human Heredity. Since 2011, Tracy has been employed at Medtronic as a statistician and subsequently as a Technical Fellow. She designs and analyzes clinical studies to support research and development of devices to restore normal cardiac rhythm. She has the privilege and exciting opportunity to collaborate with physicians, engineers, epidemiologists, regulators, and health economists around the globe in order to develop meaningful clinical evidence.

Tracy Bergemann is grateful for the mathematics and statistics education that she received at Winona State University. She was fortunate to be learning in a high-quality department consisting of knowledgeable, articulate and invested educators. The best mentors she has had in her career over 20 years were among the faculty in the Mathematics and Statistics Department at Winona State. Their sound guidance and support was provided at a crucial time that helped her to achieve many significant milestones in the years that followed.
