Background and Motivation
This scholarship is intended to be an eternal thank you to Phillip and Wilma Rubenstein, the parents of David Rubenstein. David Rubenstein grew up in Lincolnwood, Illinois, attended Niles West High School, and graduated from Winona State University in 1986, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration with minors in Accounting and Sociology and earning his pilot’s certificate. In 2009, was honored as a WSU Distinguished Young Alumni and joined the WSU Foundation Board of Directors.

After graduating, Dave moved to Manhattan Beach, California, had a successful career in the chemical distribution business and currently works in the renewable energy industry. Dave raised three terrific children: Paige (who graduated from University of Colorado Boulder), Matthew and their sister Daryn (graduating from Michigan State). In 2011, Dave married Camille Soriano, who has been warmly embraced by the WSU community. Dave attributes the foundation for his success and much of his happiness – from his education and time at WSU, the lifelong friendships he made while attending WSU, and the relationships that he developed with fellow former WSU students met while remaining involved in the WSU community.

None of these experiences would have occurred if not for the love, support and encouragement Dave received from his parents, Phillip and Wilma Rubenstein. Dave, the second of five children, was the first of four children in the family to graduate from a college or university. He established the scholarship to honor Phillip and Wilma for all they have done for him. “I love you Mom & Dad.”
