Mary June Fischer-Elder Scholarship

The Mary June Fischer-Elder Scholarship is for students who have declared a major in the Physical Education program, or a major in social science (teaching). The scholarship alternates between a male(even number fall semester) and female student (odd number fall semester) every academic year.

Criteria

1. Each recipient must be an undergraduate enrolled full time at Winona State University.
2. Each recipient must be a member in good standing of the junior or senior class.
3. Each recipient must be a declared major in the University’s physical education program.

Biography/Motivation

Mary J. Elder, 76, of Fort Worth died September 5, 1995. Mary was born in Winona. She served during World War II in the U.S. Marine Corps and recieved an honorable discharge with the rank of major. She was a member of the Methodist Church. She was the widow of Lt. Col. Rober A. Elder, USMC (retired). She also was a life member of Winona University Alumni Society, Women’s Marine’s Association, and a graduate of Winona High School.
