Background and Motivation
John Wenker began his baseball career at Winona State University in the fall of 2007. After redshirting for the spring 2008 season, John pitched for the Warriors in the 2009 “ 2012 seasons. In 2011, the team earned a berth in the NCAA Division II World Series in Cary, North Carolina, and advanced to the National Championship game. It was an unforgettable run by a talented team and, through this and many other competitive highlights, the players forged deep friendships that continue today. Our entire family loved these years of Warrior baseball, and valued the opportunity John had to pursue his passion for the game while earning a college degree. In John’s case, his five years on campus actually yielded two degrees: in business administration and accounting. His wife Samantha Miller is also a WSU degree holder and baseball fan. Our family hopes this endowed scholarship will help many future student-athletes successfully combine baseball and academic pursuits at WSU.
