Background and Motivation
In 1970, Jean Knutzen and her husband, Bob, moved to Winona from Milwaukee. The colleges here offered them rich cultural, social and educational opportunities. Bob taught at the College of St Theresa enabling Jean to earn her BA tuition free. She continued her education at WSU with English and Spanish courses, Senior University classes, and a variety of lectures. She also enjoyed many concerts, plays and films at WSU.

Jean has played piano and loved music since she was a young girl. Bob was a professional musician who shared his jazz trombone from many stages. Jean has also seen and benefited from scientific advances during her lifetime and hopes this scholarship will support music and science students in bringing joy and solving complex problems we face today.
