John M. & Ruth E. Koenig Kamin Memorial Scholarship

The John M. and Ruth E. Koenig Kamin Memorial Scholarship was created to give assistance to students attending WSU.

Criteria
Preference for a student who is a Minnesota resident
Each recipient must have a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0
Each applicant must be an undergraduate student, enrolled full-time (i.e., minimum of twelve credits per semester) at Winona State University
Each applicant must demonstrate financial need

Biography/Motivation

John M. and Ruth E. Koenig Kamin were world travelers, who, throughout their lifetime, shared adventures on six of the seven continents! Ruths love of learning began as a youngster. She was born and raised in Winona, Minnesota, where she received her Bachelors degree from Winona State College, class of 1939. She then went on to receive her Masters Degree from Northwestern University in 1942. Married to John Kamin in 1945, they moved to Sterling Heights, Michigan where Ruth was employed first, as an English teacher, then later, as a guidance counselor at Centerline High School. She later held an educational position at the University of Miami. She and John were extremely well read, and they reveled in their worldwide adventures! Education was their top priority, and they were passionate about helping young people who could not afford an education to achieve one.
