Elaine Vivian Scholarship
The Elaine Vivian Scholarship was created to encourage and support students seeking a degree in Journalism. This scholarship will award 1 $1000 award for 4 years for a total of $4000.
Criteria
1. Each recipient must be an incoming Freshman enrolled full-time at Winona State University (minimum of 12 credits each for Fall and Spring semesters)
2. Each first-time recipient must meet the top tier of the WSU Presidential Honor requirements: Top 5% of graduating class and an ACT 28
3. Each recipient must be a declared major in Journalism
4. Recipients must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 (4.0=A)
Biography/Motivation
Elaine Vivian taught generations of school children in Wisconsin, Idaho and Washington for most of her career. Elaine Vivian was connected to Winona State University through her son John, who served many years on the journalism faculty. Elaine was an avid reader and held investigative reporting in high regard. She valued both education and journalism and followed political affairs avidly, which makes this award a fitting tribute to her memory. She died in 2009.
