Elaine Vivian was connected to Winona State University through her son John, who served many years on the journalism faculty. Elaine was an avid reader and held investigative reporting in high regard. She valued both education and journalism and followed political affairs avidly, which makes this award a fitting tribute to her memory. She died in 2009.
