Background and Motivation
“I received my degree in elementary education from Winona State College (now University) many years ago. I was fortunate to be the recipient of a scholarship and by attending summer school was able to complete my degree in three years. I taught kindergarten in Red Wing, where I met and married my husband. Later, I took a leave to care for our two adopted children. During that time, I was able to continue my education and also tutor ESL and homebound students. I returned to teaching kindergarten, then moved up to first grade before retiring.

Teaching is a challenging but most rewarding career and I feel that I was richly blessed to be in a profession that I dearly loved. I have decided to share my blessings by creating this scholarship to assist others in achieving their dreams.

The need for excellent teachers is greater than ever and it is exciting for me to be able to contribute to your education. May you, too, find great success in reaching your goals.” Georgia Gielau
