Marlowe Mraz Scholarship

Marlowe Mraz Scholarship Fund Agreement was established in the Winona State University Foundation. The scholarship will benefit and encourage students who are enrolled in any of the seven majors or minors of the History and Legal Studies department.

Criteria
1. Each recipient must be a declared History and Legal Studies major or minor.
2. Each recipient must be an undergraduate student enrolled and in good standing at Winona State University. There is no required minimum number of credits per semester.
3. Recipients must be enrolled in their freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or 5th year of classes.
4. Non-traditional students, students of diverse ethnic backgrounds, and veteran or active duty military students are encouraged to apply.
5. Each recipient must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher. However, GPA should not be considered primary criteria.
6. Each recipient must demonstrate financial need, but need should not be based solely on FAFSA.
7. Essay required. As part of the application process for this scholarship, the student must submit an essay of 500 words or less addressing the following question: How has your relationship with a cat enhanced you as a person?

VI. SELECTION PROCESS
Final selection of the recipient shall be made by the WSU Foundation Scholarship Committee. This scholarship shall be given to a recipient who meets the selection criteria and the purpose and motivation requirements of this scholarship. The criteria used in selecting a scholarship award recipient will be, in order of importance, the students:
Quality of essay,
Undergraduate status,
GPA.

*BACKGROUND AND MOTIVATION *
The donors state, We simply want to help students as education is important for us. We were non-traditional students and had some rough times in school. This scholarship is named after the donor’s cat, a brown tabby named Marlowe. This scholarship is also named in honor of the donor’s mother, who attended Winona State Teachers College and graduated with a Primary Education degree. She has been a strong advocate for Winona State University within her family and is proud to see a third generation carry on the Winona State University tradition.
