Counselor Education Minority Student Scholarship

The Counselor Education Minority Student Scholarship was created to recruit and retain diverse students in the Counselor Education Department at WSU. The scholarship will support and encourage Counselor Education students who are underrepresented due to their race, ethnicity, sexuality, or physical disability.

Criteria

1. Each recipient must be a student enrolled full-time in good standing at Winona State University
2. Each recipient must be a minority student based on his/her race, ethnicity, sexuality or physical disability.
3. Each recipient must demonstrate financial need, but need should not be based solely on FAFSA.
4. As part of the application process for this scholarship, the student must submit an essay to include the following:
a. Reason/s for financial need and how this scholarship will make a difference
b. Demonstrate his/her involvement in promoting multiculturalism at WSU or in the community, including supporting materials, artifacts such as pictures and articles

Biography/Motivation

The Counselor Education Department strives for excellence in diversity and multiculturalism. This scholarship is designed to promote the recruitment and retention of diverse students, specifically minority students based on their race, ethnicity, sexuality, and physical disability. Our mission is to increase the number of diverse counseling professionals in the counseling field in order to meet the needs of an ever diversifying and mobile society.
